Professional horticulturist, he has been making researches on bonsai
for over 30 years. His creations are compositions of trees or landscapes with rocks,
sand and grasses, in the special wind style he masters. His masterpieces received many
important awards. He published more than 30 academic theses and 300 articles on magazines
and newspapers in China and abroad. He was invited to give lectures and demonstrations
all over the world. The Chinese Bonsai Artist Association awarded Mr. Liu the
Chinese Bonsai master in 2005 and the BCI awarded him the International Bonsai master in 2008. His works of
art have been described as "magnificent, smooth, natural and fresh".
He has profound knowledge of penjing and landscape stones. He is
vice chairman of Guangdong Society of Landscape Architecture (Penjing and Art Stone
Section), standing director and vice chairman of Guangzhou Penjing Association,
overseas technical consultant of Dr. Shiqi Lin’s horticulture association in Vancouver; vice
president of Hongkong Penjing and Art Stone Association. He started creating penjing
in the early 1970s. He got guidance from Lingnan approach and then developed his
passion into a profession. His creations are appreciated all over the world and have received prestigious
recognitions. Three of his masterpieces are exhibited in penjing museum ‘We Yerhaeuser’
in Seattle (USA).
Inspired by an encounter with Masahiko Kimura, he leaves his activity
and starts a long apprenticeship in order to open (in 1989) his own bonsai nursery.
Since 1993 he presents his own creations at the Japanese professionals exhibition Sakufu-ten
and since 2002 he travels to Europe, given lectures in Spain, Germany, France, Belgium
etc., with the objects of sharing the joy of bonsai with other bonsai lovers and teaching
his techniques. With the same objectives he writes books and articles, the last one
being Takeo Kawabe, bonsai artist, his spirit, his steps. Although he is famous for
his spectacular works on dead wood, he says that artist is not the one who imposes on
the tree his own pattern of creation, but the one who looks with determination and humility
for the spirit of survival the tree embodies.
Linmin Gong is an outstanding ceramic artist. After graduating at
the Art Institution of Shanghai University he developed his own style, which combines
Western art with traditional Chinese art. He created hundreds of art works, which obtained
prestigious prizes and recognitions and were exhibited for the first time in a sole
exhibition in Shanghai in 2001 and again in 2010 during the World Bonsai Convention
organized by WBFF in Shanghai.
